Brazilian woman prayed to Lord of the Rings elf after mistaking for saint

The woman's granddaughter grew suspicious of the three-inch "saint" figure's attire and realised the error after an online search.
A Brazilian woman has revealed on Facebook that her grandmother has been praying daily to a Lord of the Rings figurine after mistaking it for an icon of a saint.

Beautician Gabriela Brandao, from Florianapolis, posted images of the three-inch figure of the half-elf character Elrond after thinking his clothing looked odd for a saint.

It was then she realised her grandmother had believed she was praying to San Antonio de Padua, the patron saint of the poor, rather than the Lord of Rivendell from the fantasy trilogy by JRR Tolkien.

Ms Brandao noticed the figure was wearing a cloak that was open down the middle, a belt and what appears to be a blue necklace on top of a white robe.

She wrote: "My daughter's great grandmother prays to this figure of San Antonio every day, but looking closer..."

She then included an image from eBay showing the Lord of the Rings figurine for sale.

Elrond is played by Hugo Weaving in the hugely popular Lord of the Rings films, directed by Peter Jackson.

Sex-mad tortoise gives himself arthritis by having too much sex

A sex-mad tortoise has developed arthritis after, erm, making ‘the tortoise with two backs’ too often.

Poor old horny Bert now requires wheels in order to get around his home at the Dinosaur Adventure Park in Norfolk.

The 22-year-old African spurred tortoise had developed swelling in his rear legs when he returned from a breeding programme in 2011.

The two month session saw him sleep with five females producing an unknown number of offspring.

‘He is a lover not a fighter, that is certainly true,’ said Martin Hocking, acting manager at the park’s Secret Animal Garden.

‘African spurred tortoises are prolific breeders who can produce up to 60 to 70 offspring a year and he is no exception.’

Bert’s massive libido looks to have taken its toll and he has spent the past eight weeks on his wheels.

‘The wheels help Bert’s mobility and will hopefully help him heal by aiding circulation,’ park operations manager Adam Goymour added.

‘The public are always interested by Bert and wonder why he has wheels, there is a sign up on the window of his enclosure that tells all the info about his previous injury and why he is on the wheels.

‘Kids love it and think he is a bionic tortoise and that he needs those wheels to help him with his super tortoise speed.’

Little do they know…

Bert has lived at the dinosaur park since 2007 on loan from the Norfolk tortoise club, and was officially donated in 2013.

African Spurred tortoises have and average life expectancy of 60.

Alien hunter claims to have spotted a 'hairy spider monkey' and 'slug animal' on Mars among several bizarre sightings.
Many conspiracy theorists have taken the initiative to find life on Mars by analyzing every picture that is sent back to Earth from the red planet.
Now, one Martian researcher believes to have found a trove of evidence captured by the Curiosity Rover that he says ‘are all signs of life on Mars’.
The bizarre sightings include a slug alien, a snail and a four-legged creature that ‘looks like a hairy spider monkey’ staring directly at the rover.
Curiosity has been feeding alien hunters images since first landing on the dusty planet in 2012.
Its main goal was to determine whether the area surrounding Gale Crater ever offered an environment favorable for microbes.
The crater's main appeal for scientists is geological layering exposed in the lower portion of its central mound, Mount Sharp.
However, over the past six years, the NASA machine has visited a range of places on Mars and according to some, has seen a lot of strange things on its journey.
‘I found this four legged alien creature on Mars and it looks like a hairy spider monkey,’ Scott C Waring shared on his blog UFO Sightings Daily.com this week.
‘The longer upper arms are holding it up as well as its shorter lower legs.’
‘If you add light to the face, you can easily make out two eyes’.
And this 'alien' appears to be the same color as its surroundings, which suggests it may just be an oddly shaped rock standing up in the dust.
Along with the creature that is said to look like a hairy spider money are other sightings that Waring suggests 'prove' NASA is hiding life on Mars from the public.
He suggests there is an alien figure laying down, a slug-like animal crawling out from underneath the rocks and a snail taking a stroll through the dusty planet.
A face was also spotted carved into the side of a rock, which is a very popular sighting on Mars.
